The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Committee on Accreditation for Anesthesia Technology Education (CoA-ATE) cooperate with the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) and the American Red Cross to establish, maintain and promote appropriate standards of quality for educational programs in Anesthesia Technology and to provide recognition for educational programs that meet or exceed the minimum standards.

Important Information

Beginning the Accreditation Process

All new programs that wish to enter the accreditation process must begin with the Request for Accreditation Services. Once received, the CoA-ATE confirms receipt and requests completion of a self-study.  Upon receipt of the completed self-study, the CoA-ATE assigns a review team and schedules a site visit, if determined appropriate.

The self-study review and site visit assess program compliance with the accreditation Standards and Guidelines.  Programs seeking initial accreditation are not expected to have outcomes data but should be able to identify and describe mechanisms and processes for assessing the program according to the Standards. Once a determination is made by CAAHEP, and if accreditation is awarded, it is the responsibility of the program to report outcomes to the CoA-ATE via the annual program report and publish outcomes data on the program’s website.

Programs are required to assess graduate and employer satisfaction as part of program outcomes. You can find CoA-ATE approved Graduate Survey and Employer Surveys in under Supporting Documents. Programs must include all questions on the surveys, but may add additional questions at their discretion.

Annual Reports are due from all programs on July 1st annually.
